Fall Recycling Program

 

Free document shredding will be available from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Garfield Heights Service Garage, 13600 McCracken Blvd. Hazardous Waste Collection dates are from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 7-10 and Sept. 13-17 and from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 18. RUBBISH PICK UP

  • Kimble Recycling and Disposal

  • Please call 216-475-3373 (Administrative Offices) or 216-475-1107 (Service Garage) if rubbish and recyclables are not picked-up.

  • If you are unsure of your scheduled rubbish pick-up day, please call the Service Department.

  • The following holidays will be observed New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If a holiday falls on a weekday, your rubbish and recyclables will be collected the day after your regular pick-up day. If the holiday falls on the weekend, normal pick-up will not be interrupted.

  •  

  • Tree Branches may be placed on lawn for pick-up. You must:

  • CUT to 4 feet in length (branches that are longer will NOT be picked-up).

  • Tied & Bundled with rope.

  • CANNOT weigh more than 40 lbs.

  • Kimble Recycling and Disposal will pick-up

  • Refrigerators; you must take off the door(s).

  • Couches.

  • TVs.

  • Leaves that are bagged.

  • Paint will be picked-up (put cat litter or saw dust inside the can to saok up paint). Place the paint can in an open box with the lid off.

  • All mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic and secured with tape.

  •  

  • Rubbish may be placed on the tree lawn for pick-up after 6:00 p.m. the evening before scheduled pick-up day from April 1st to October 31st and after 4:00 p.m. from November 1st to March 31st.

  • Residential Rubbish only.

  • If you are rehabbing a house, you must use a dumpster. (Construction debris will not be picked-up).

How often does the City pick-up rubbish?                                                                                                                                                 

RESIDENTIAL rubbish is picked-up weekly. Be considerate of your neighbors and follow these rules:

I've seen people scavenging through resident's rubbish, is this allowed?                                                                                                               

No one is permitted to remove or take rubbish/recyclables deposited on the tree lawn for collection by the city. Codified Ordinance Sections 759.01 & 759.99. A violation of this law is a misdemeanor of the fourth degree.

People often throw trash and other paper items on the ground. What can I do about it?                                                                                           

Littering in our community is a serious problem. Section 527.02 of the Codified Ordinances reads, "No person shall throw or deposit litter in or upon any street, sidewalk or other public place within the city except in public receptacles, in authorized private receptacles for collection, or in official city dumps." Violation of this ordinance is a misdemeanor of the fourth degree.

DO NOT PUT RUBBISH ON THE TREELAWN BEFORE 6:00 P.M. ON THE EVENING IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DAY FOR REFUSE COLLECTION.

You must remove the waste containers from the front yard within 12 hours of collection. Secure or tie the container/bag. You are responsible to pick-up any waste that blows out of your waste container/bag or was disturbed by an animal.Waste containers or waste/refuse not in containers must be placed in the REAR of all houses or other buildings.The City will NOT pick-up COMMERCIAL rubbish. If you have rubbish from a construction project or because you are moving out, you MUST use a dumpster.

Sewer Calls

Preventative maintenance is no longer done by the county.  If you are experiencing a backup or sewer-related issue, please call the Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at 216-443-8201.

Catch basin problems will still be handled by the Garfield Heights Service Department. We need:

  1. House address

  2. Your name

  3. Phone number

There is no charge to the resident for this service.

Potholes

  • Please call the Service Department office to report potholes in the city streets.

  • Have the following information available: The address and location of the pothole.

Tree Removal

  • Dead trees located on a resident’s tree lawn will be removed by the City.

  • Limbs will be trimmed off trees on tree lawns only.

  • If a tree is interfering with a power line, call the Illuminating Company: 1-800-589-3101.

Leaf Pick-Up

The City of Garfield Heights leaf pick-up generally begins on November 1st.  Leaves must be placed in long rows on your tree lawn, not in tall piles. DO NOT put leaves in the street.
 
Piles cannot have sticks, twigs, rocks, grass clippings, trash, animal waste, or other material that can clog the leaf machine. If debris is found in a pile, workers will NOT collect the rest of the pile and you will be asked to bag your leaves going forward.

Pick-up will start in Ward 1 and Ward 7, working towards the middle of the city. Pick up will continue ward by ward, street by street.

Leaves can always be bagged or put in large trash tote and put out with your regular garbage on regular collection day; bags cannot weigh more than 40 pounds.
