*Cranwood Baseball Field Update*

The Parks and Recreation Department is working to improve Cranwood Baseball Field, a municipally-owned recreational park that has not been utilized in more than a decade. The park has not been well-maintained, and as a result, there are safety issues to be addressed. Mayor Matt Burke has set a goal to restore this park and make it usable to Garfield Heights residents and businesses. Recently, staff from The Smart Academy has volunteered to assist with improvements. Parks and Recreation Director Paul Birk and the members of the city’s recreation board are working with the volunteers who have stepped to clean up the park premises.  This partnership will lead to an opportunity for the school to utilize the park for its student intramural sports program. Moving forward, the city’s plan is to continue to renovate the park and make it safe. Once renovation is complete and the safety issues are addressed, the recreation area will be available for use by “Permit Only” and there will be an established process for reserving the space. Mayor Burke said it will be a great place to have special events such as Family Reunions, Birthday Parties, Graduation Parties, etc.  For additional information about Cranwood Baseball Field and its future, contact Mayor Matt Burke or Parks and Recreation Director Paul Birk.
