CITY COUNCIL

MEETINGS 7:00 P.M. SECOND AND FOURTH MONDAYS OF THE MONTH in City Council Chambers located in the lower level of the Civic Center.  City Council holds a caucus session at 6:30 p.m. prior to each meeting.  City Council may schedule additional meetings to handle city business matters with 24 hour notice to the public. Agendas and legislation to be considered at each meeting are posted the Friday prior to the meeting at public locations throughout the city: Civic Center, Garfield Heights Justice Center, Boulevard Convenient and Garfield Heights Regional Library.

 

 

 

TERM

City Council is comprised of seven (7) members elected by wards, serving for a term of two years. 

 

POWERS

City Council is the legislative branch of government and their powers are as follows: (1) propose and vote on legislation which affects the City's laws, (2) regulate expenditures, revenues and purchases for the City, (3) undertaking of public improvements, (4) levying of assessments, (5) execution of contracts, (6) sale & disposal of municpal owned property; and (7) zoning regulations.
